Upgrade your flight to a higher class!

Did you know that most airlines offer to upgrade your ticket to a higher class a few hours before departure for a few crowns? If companies still have free seats in higher classes (business class, first class), they offer economy class passengers the opportunity to upgrade their ticket. A trip in business class will cost you, for example, only five instead of 60,000 crowns!

But be careful. You have to ask for this upgrade yourself—airlines usually don’t offer it automatically at the check-in counter. Find your airline’s desk at the airport and ask about the option, or inquire directly at the business class check-in desk.

We tried it just last week with Turkish Airlines, upgrading our flight from the Seychelles for only €250. The regular business class fare would have been over €80,000.

In business class you’ll enjoy more space and privacy, a higher baggage allowance, a wider selection of meals and drinks, better service, and access to airport lounges during layovers. Your chances of a successful upgrade request are much better if you are a member of the airline’s loyalty program, if you fly with them regularly, and if your ticket is booked in one of the higher fare classes. Be patient—upgrade procedures are often slow and time-consuming. You won’t always succeed, but sooner or later, it’s bound to work out.

If you’re heading off on a trip soon, try asking about this option at the airport. And if it works, don’t forget to send us a photo from business class. Good luck!
